Chlorpyrifos is a crystalline organophosphate insecticide. It acts on the nervous system of insects by inhibiting acetylcholinesterase.In agriculture,chlorpyrifos remains “one of the most widely used organophosphate insecticides” while chlorpyrifos may also cause the following side effect:

1. Generally prohibite to use it on Tobacco and lettuce, because they are very sensitive to Chlorpyrifos.

2. Phytotoxic to melon seedling , it should be used after vines length over than 1 m, besides, some kinds of cherry cultivarsare also sensitive to Chlorpyrifos.

3. Granules formulation such as chlorpyrifos 5%G  can not be used on flower heart of corn. Control of underground insects with directional root irrigation is relative safe for growth; however, root irrigation should be prohibited at sensitive crops seedling period.

4. Don’ t use chlorpyrifos against grages. Grape may burn and produce black spot.

5. Overdose of chlorpyrifos may cause defoliation on cruciferous vegetables seedling, yellowing and spot on kidney bean.

So itis particularly important to use chlorpyrifos properly on crop protection.
